Week 7 Little Bear Farm

Hi everyone,

We've been doing a lot of pickling, and have heard from several other members that they have been doing the same.  These are pickled beets, kholrabi slaw, and turnips, using red or white wine vinegar, spiced with some combination of coriander, ginger, black pepper, garlic, cilantro, and mustard seed.  Delicious on hot dogs and sausages, sandwiches, salads, and spicy soups.  Yum!

This week we have one of my favorite tiny cabbages, Gonzales, basically a 2 serving cabbage.  This is the last week for turnips for awhile, and they are coming in a mixed bag with beets, both without tops.  Last week for cilantro, too.  The drought has been messing with our timing a little bit, so the variety is a bit limited this week, but next week please look forward to green beans, artichokes, garlic and more.  They are so close!

We would also like to announce our official farm visit/blueberry picking day, July 30th.  If you would like to join us, please meet at our farm (8220 Rt. 16 Farmersville NY) by 10 am for snacks and a quick tour of the farm before we travel over to Pepper's blueberry farm which is a mile down the road.  The berries are only $1 per pound, and we will pay for your family's first three pounds.  They are plentiful, chemical free and delicious.  If you need help with directions please call or email us, and let us know if you are planning to attend so we can look for you.  We are 50 miles from Buffalo, and about 45 miles from Hamburg.
